Ophelias Last Rites

Aquavit, Strawberry Liqueur, Lemon Juice, Molasses, Absinthe
The Story

We found this one at a wonderful speakeasy in Kansas City. The owner of Swordfish Tom's graciously gave us the specs for this drink with permission to publish it. The molasses may surprise you. It's not generally used for a cocktail syrup as it has a rather strong flavor. But here it just works. Don't make a large batch of the syrup as we really don't know where else you might use it.

Ingredients
  • 1½ oz Aquavit

  • ¾ oz Strawberry Liqueur

  • ¾ oz Lemon Juice

  • ½ oz Molasses syrup (1:1)

  • Absinthe

Preparation

Molasses Syrup: Warm 1 part molasses, 1 part water in a saucepan until molasses is fully mixed with the water. Allow to cool before use.

  1. Add Aquavit, strawberry liqueur, lemon juice and molasses syrup to a cocktail shaker

  2. Shake with ice for 8-10 seconds

  3. Double strain into a chilled coupe

  4. Top with a few drops or spritzes of Absinthe

  5. Garnish with a dehydrated lemon wheel (optional)
